Matt LeZotte Biography

Matt LeZotte enters 1st year as the Head football coach after serving for 2 years on the Wayne County Football Staff as Assistant Head Coach in Jesup, GA and 4 years as the Head Football Coach/Athletic Director at Aquinas High School in Augusta, GA from 2009-2012. 

WCHS:  LeZotte served as the Assistant Head Coach and running backs coach for the Yellow Jackets.  LeZotte coached multiple All-Region and All-State players while at WCHS.  While at WCHS, LeZotte helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 2013 GHSA 4-A Semifinal appearance and a 2014 Region 3-AAAA Championship and Quarterfinal appearance.

AHS:  LeZotte compiled a 28-16 record in four seasons, making the playoffs each of the last two seasons.  In 2011 he was named the Comcast CSRA Coach of the Year after his team made it to the GHSA State Quarterfinals, finishing the season with a 9-4 record.  He led his team to three winning seasons in a row, first ever home playoff game, and led the team to its first ever playoff victory, all which had not been done in the schools 60+ year history of playing football.  In 2011 the team set, at the time, school records for points per game scored (33.6), points per game allowed (16.4) and overall victories (9) while finishing as the Region 7-A Runner-Up.  In 2012, Aquinas finished the regular season at 8-2, which had never been done prior to 2012 while playing a region schedule. Not only did LeZotte build a football team, he built a sustaining program that has been 26-1 since his departure with 2 Region Titles and 1 GHSA 1-A Private State Championship.  LeZotte currently has four players from his time at Aquinas playing NCAA football, two of which are in the SEC.  Dane Anderson (Citadel), Connor Tierney (Georgia Southern University), Will Few (Ole Miss) and Brendan Douglas (UGA)

In College:  LeZotte was a four-year letter winner and three-year captain at QB while playing for James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. He was the captain of the 2004 I-AA National Championship team.  He was the first three-year captain in the school's history. 

Personal:  LeZotte and his wife Lindsay have one daughter, Lucy and a baby on the way.
